A Glimpse into Eucatex

Eucatex prides itself in being the first Brazilian company to make use of eucalyptus in the production of ceiling tiles and panels. This stemmed from its concern for the environment as well as acoustic comfort. Eucatex was founded by Paulo Maluf on November 23, 1951. Shortly after, in 1954, it started production of soft boards at its first mill, Fiberboard Industrial Unit in São Paulo. Soon, Eucatex was manufacturing ceiling panels and tiles, and by 1965, it had started exporting these tiles and panels to Europe.

The first Eucatex offices were set up in Buenos Aires (Argentina) and within Brazil, between 1956 and 1965. Currently, Eucatex has three offices in Brazil: the Corporate Headquarters in São Paulo, and the Regional Offices at Belo Horizonte and Bento Gonçalves. It also has offices overseas in the United States, Mexico, and Germany. It employs over 2,200 employees and exports to 37 different countries across the globe.

The Company has two major segments of operation: the furniture industry, which represents 48% of its income, and the civil construction industry, which represents 35% of its income. It is the domestic leader in ceiling lining, insulating materials, and wall partitions. It has a current market share of 41%, being the second largest producer of wood fiber panels in the foreign market. In the segment of manufacturing of MDP panels, it has a current market share of 16%.

Aside from all this, Eucatex operates in the flooring and door markets as well as in the manufacturing of paint and resins. It has also come to be known for the manufacture of galvanized steel roofing sheets and steel profiles, peat, and expanded vermiculite-based products – which are used in the manufacturing of wall partitions and ceiling linings with thermal insulating properties.

Mr. Flavio Maluf serves as the Chief Executive Officer at Eucatex, a position he has held since April 29, 2005. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanic Engineer at Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado, FAAP – SP, and later did a year of study at New York University. He also serves as the Chairman of the Board of Executive Officers at Eucatex S.A. Industria e Comercio.

Eucatex has been at the forefront of the industrial revolution in Brazil. Segs.com tells that the Maluf Family has run the company straight to the top and has maintained its growth in the global scene. The growing industrial success of Eucatex has been attributed to the continuous growth of its planted forest. This guarantees a constant supply of eucalyptus that is an important raw material for Eucatex. Another contributing factor to its success is the creation of new products as well as the continual upgrading of current facilities. This has allowed Eucatex to broaden its reach into new markets while dominating various sectors in its home country.
